This is the short documentary included at the end of the Wonder Woman First Season DVD set, and
it’s a fitting, informative look at the conception, execution and legacy of the
now-classic TV show. Much of this is repeated information from the audio
commentary by Lynda Carter and executive producer Douglas S. Cramer on the
pilot episode, but we also get much insight on the character from historians,
comic book artists and others involved with the show. Carter herself has the
most incisive reflections, on topics ranging from her initial discomfort with
the “bullet-bra” (“pre-Madonna,” she tells us) to her unsolicited role as
feminist hero to women of all walks of life. Ruefully, she also discusses her
only misgiving with the character: that WW never had love in her life. Sorry,
Lynda, that’s the lot of a superhero’s life; that’s why they’re not mere
mortals, like us.
Oh, and she doesn’t like the invisible plane theme – you know,
that cool jazz number. Am I the only one…
