Coach is smitten
with a woman who lives in his building. When Diane asks Sam to keep away from
her, he takes it as a challenge, but despite his efforts, he is rebuffed again
and again. Coach finally works up the gumption to ask the young lady out, but
is rejected as well… at least until he gets out the big guns: he fakes a fall
down some stairs to get her sympathy, and companionship, for the night!
Coach always was
a loveable chap, and now we find that he’s a real ladies man! This is one of
those shows that seems geared to end sadly, but has a very satisfying payoff.
Subplot: the men’s bathroom has a plumbing problem, so all the gents must
trundle upstairs to Mellville’s for the lou – the line is so long Norm grabs a
beer while he is waiting.
Cold open: Love
this one! A tour guide, frozen from the cold, brings his group in to Cheers for
an abridged, and highly inaccurate, tour of Boston. One of the best cold-open punchlines
ever! Norm’s opener: (Sam: What’s up, Norm?) My nipples; it’s freezing out
there!
